Skyline Time

Mrs. Beaver:

Since we were living in Cincinnati when Anna, Lissie and John were newborns, all three got exposed to one of Cincinnati's signature foods, Skyline Chili, at a very early age. Today we continued the family tradition. After an appointment with a lactation specialist, Anna, Lissie and I enjoyed fellowship over Skyline for lunch.

The lighting was wonderful to capture more photos of Brielle's first week.

We tried a Skyline bib on little Brielle, but it functioned a bit more like a blanket for her.

After a big yawn...

...Brielle slept through the rest of our meal.

First in her mama's arms and then in Auntie Lissie's.

All in all, the continuance of this family tradition of visiting Skyline
with the newest family member was a delight!

Adjustment Weariness

Mrs. Beaver:

Adding a family member, whether through birth or adoption, is a wonderful blessing, but its also tiring. This evening the Nix family were showing signs of the big change that took place last Wednesday with the birth of the first child.

Aaron crashed on the sofa, shortly after arriving home from his first day back at work.

After dinner little Brielle slept for a long time on her Aunt Lissie's lap.

The brand-new threesome also took the opportunity to rest together on the sofa.

Newborn Milestone

Mrs. Beaver:

Brielle on her second outing.
As we drove, Brielle gave a first hint of what her smile will look like a few weeks from now...

...to her first pediatrician visit.
The nurse wanted all clothes off. Aunt Lissie was willing to help.

The four-day old was traumatized by having to be exposed...

Auntie Lissie demonstrated she already has the touch and had Brielle happy again in no time.

Anna worked frantically on the many forms she was required to fill out for the new patient. Meanwhile, Brielle slept peacefully until...

...the doctor began to examine her.

She left no doubt that her lungs are functioning just fine.

However, the experienced doctor knew just how to talk Brielle back into a state of calmness.

After all the "trauma" of the examination,
the new mom listened carefully to the pediatrician's instructions

All finished! A very healthy baby ready to return home.
Thank You, Lord, for Your goodness!

Meeting Family

Mrs. Beaver:

Today Lissie and I made our way to Ohio to help the family's new parents and meet the newest family member, Brielle Madelyn, who was born on Wednesday, 06/06/12.

Tomorrow the very happy new father, Aaron, turns 22.

It was pure joy to this mother to listen to my two girls giggle together.

When we first arrived, Brielle's eye's were closed against what must seem like such harsh light to a three-day-old whose spent nine months in a soothing dark womb.

When I fed Brielle her supplement, she happy slurped down the whole bottle, and then it came right back up again. Bless my sweet grandbaby! I do believe I've lost my touch!

Aunt Lissie came running with a towel to wipe up the poor newborn...
and her grandmother who was wearing a good deal of baby's meal.

We discovered Anna already knows her little one so well she can imitate Brielle's facial expressions.

As soon as Brielle was cleaned up, she was content again.

We've had the most God-blessed day!
Thank You, Lord, for Brielle, and thank You, my Heavenly Father,
for the precious gift of getting to be with my two oldest.

I'd Like to Kiss the Inventor!

Mrs. Beaver:

Does anyone know where I can find the inventor of Skype? I'd like to hug him! And I bet I'm not the only mom who feels that way. What a blessing Skype is to parents who are separated by miles or even oceans from their children--and grandchildren!

Our first granddaughter, Brielle, was born far, far away in Ohio on Wednesday. Although the distance makes our hearts ache a bit, we've been able to see the precious bundle and her parents via Skype the past two evenings. What a joy!

Last night Anna and her little one were larger than life on the television in the basement. (Aaron was running an errand.)

We all enjoyed watching the two of them interact.

In addition, when Anna shared with us that Brielle was struggling to learn to drink her mama's milk, the whole group prayed in turn right then and there for God to intervene in that important detail. Brielle's pediatrician was concerned about the baby's percentage of weight loss.

This morning Anna called with the news that Brielle's late night feeding and early morning feedings had gone much better.

So, if you happen to run into the inventor of Skype, warn him that there's is a very petite, graying grandmother looking for him who wants to give him a big ol' hug!
