Celebrating Six Months

Mrs. Beaver:

On the same day we celebrated Alexander's 12th birthday in late May, we also marked the six-month anniversary of our adoption of Alexander and his sisters, Daria and Oksana.

As I've said on this blog before, anniversaries are a REALLY big deal to adoptive families. They give us the opportunity to look back and see how far we've come. For Christian families, an anniversary plays an even more important purpose. Marking the date gives us the chance to stand back and see how much God has done for us and in us. An anniversary enables us to purpose to "taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8a), and to give thanks to him for his abundant lovingkindness.

To celebrate our first six months, here are some photos from our trip to Moscow to bring home our new family members. These pictures remind us how wise and big and grand and marvelous and generous and loving our God is. As grand as our beginning was in that beautiful city, he has brought us so far in the intervening six months. Relationships that were awkward initially now grow sweeter and closer each day. We had no shared language as we toured Moscow, now Daria and Alexander are fully capable of conversations in English. Oksana's ability to communicate in both English and Russian is blossoming. We were just a group of people desiring to be a family while in Moscow, now we are a family.
(These pictures are in no particular order. Some of them we've shared here before; some will be new.)

God is so good. He gave us a great start and has taken us so far since then.
